The first step for reducing emissions is to measure and understand them. We suggest that our suppliers measure their carbon footprint as an immediate first step. This will help you see understand your impact and prioritize your reduction actions. We recommend that suppliers initially measure scope 1 and 2 emissions as clearly possible, and measure scope 3 in a general but efficient way which you can refine and improve each year.

Normative CO₂ calculatorIf you don’t already measure your emissions, you can make a fast start with the Normative calculator. It’s free and user friendly (registration required). This can give you a quick idea of your emissions while you work on a more detailed measurement

We suggest that you align your CO₂ reduction plan with a business strategy for competing in the low carbon economy and put in place a reduction roadmap that is coherent with your daily operations. If your CO₂ reduction and your business strategy are mutually reinforcing, it can be a powerful driver of change.

The Task Force on Climate-related Financial Diclosures (TFCD) TFCD provides the most standardized resources for climate risk management, strategy and governance.  Disclosure can be a very useful starting point for addressing risk. 

Setting ambitious targets is key for ensuring that your business is  aligned with the effort to limit global warming to less than 1.5º C. We encourage you to set science-based targets by adhering to the SBT initiative.
